Ohakune

Affectionately known as the Carrot Capital, Ohakune produces some of the sweetest and best tasting carrots largely attributed to having some of the best soil in NZ courtesy of volcanic action.  The Carrot Park situated at the southern entrance to the town is a fantastic place to visit and a real testament to the incredible group of volunteers who tirelessly fundraise and add to the park, while there you have to take a photo with the Giant Carrot!

Ohakune is a fantastic base for your adventure in the dual world heritage UNESCO National Park.  Tongariro's dual World Heritage status recognises the park's important Maori cultural and spiritual associations as well as its outstanding volcanic features and is one of three World Heritage sites in New Zealand.

During the months of July - October many of the visitors to the region spend their time skiing or snowboarding Mt Ruapehu with the largest ski area in New Zealand!

Outside of these months or even on closed days there are a huge number of adventure activities in the area including golf, mountain biking, white water rafting, horse riding, canoeing and quad bike adventure rides.
